MPS PARCC Results Overview Available
Middletown has now taken PARCC state assessments twice. While Middletown scored solidly above the state average, there was a predictable drop in performance during this first year of implementation. During our second year we saw some small gains. Our results will continue to be used to help us establish a starting point from which we can mark our progress. Reminder about PARCC: Last spring, our students participated in statewide assessments in math and English language arts known as the PARCC tests. These assessments measure students’ understanding of the new expectations for English and math that focus on the critical thinking, problem solving, and reasoning skills they need in today’s world (Common Core State Standards). The 2015-2016 assessments, written by educators, were designed to:
• Move away from multiple choice questions to ones that allow students to demonstrate a real understanding of what they know and can do by writing essays, solving real world problems, and reading and analyzing complex texts.
• Determine whether students are college- and career-ready or “on track” for the next grade level.
