This year, our English / Language Arts class will focus on different reading and writing strategies.
This year, our English / Language Arts class will focus on different reading and writing strategies.
The agenda for the 2nd Trimester will be:
Vocabulary -- Bi-weekly Vocabulary lessons and Word Choice in written works
Homework Monday - Thursday. Test every other Friday.
Reading -- Literary Text Comprehension – Book Groups; Class read aloud books
Informational Text Comprehension – Magazine Articles
Breadth of Reading -- Reads 5 books independently with evidence (part of the 25 books for the year)
Oral Communication -- May come from English and/or Social Studies projects/presentations
Written Communication -- Habits & Processes -- Writer's Notebooks (3 entries due each week)
Structures of Language -- Organization of writing, paragraph structure, and sentence development
Reading / Writing Connection -- Written responses to class readings
Expressive / Narrative Writing – Fairy Tales / Fables; Poetry
Informational Writing -- Persuasive Essays
Writing Conventions -- Grammar, Spelling, Punctuation, etc.

4 Proficient with Distinction: Student work is secure and meets grade level expectations for this trimester with consistent accuracy, independence, and a high level of quality.
3 Proficient: Student work is secure and meets grade level expectations for this trimester with accuracy and quality.
2 Partially Proficient: Student work is developing but is not meeting grade level expectations for this trimester.
1 Substantially Below Proficient: Student work is beginning to show progress/understanding but is not meeting grade level expectations for this trimester.
