4th Grade at Gaudet School

January News 

This month in Reader’s Workshop we are finishing our Author Study on Chris Van Allsburg.  He wrote many books including Ben’s Dream, JUMANJI and ZATHURA.  We will be starting to read expository texts and will spend time explaining our thoughts and reasoning.  We also need to continue to read for 30 minutes each night and fill in our reading coupon.  In school, we need to make sure to complete reading responses when we finish a book so that we can get credit for what we read.

 In Writer’s Workshop we are going to start peer editing our work.  We will learn new strategies to edit our work before conferencing with a teacher.  We will work on correcting punctuation, spelling and grammar to make our writing great!

 We finished Unit 4 on Decimals right before break and are now starting Unit 5, which is all about multiplication and division.  We have a Study Link to do every night to help us practice what we learned in class.  A family letter went home so that our parents can help us with our homework.  It is also online on the class website.  Each night we need to be studying our multiplication facts so that we can memorize them.

 We finished our first Science kit on Electricity last month and will be starting a new kit this month.  The new kit is all about Earth Materials, which are rocks, diamonds and crystals.  In each of our experiments we will be working with different kinds of materials.

 In Social Studies, we will continue to study map skills.  We already starting learning about longitude and latitude lines on a map and will continue to learn more about maps and how to use them.
