About Middletown and Our Public Schools
Middletown, Rhode Island is located in the south-central area of Aquidneck Island in Narragansett Bay. Middletown is a coastal community with a rich history. Light industry, agriculture, military and tourism are the primary employers. Adjacent to Newport, RI, 40 miles from Providence and about 70 miles from Boston, Middletown residents have wonderful access to a variety of athletic, recreational, cultural, and educational resources.
Middletown Public Schools is a comprised of 4 schools that service over 2,400 students. Middletown High School is a comprehensive 9 - 12 high school. J.H. Gaudet Middle School is a 5 - 8 middle school comprised of 2 teams per grade level. There is a grade 4 Learning Academy located at Gaudet School. There are 2 elementary schools that service PreK-3. The district has approximately 200 teachers (certified) and 60 clerks, custodians and teacher assistants (non-certified).
