Senior Support Day - April 10th

The College and Career Readiness Center, in collaboration with the Rhode Island College Planning Center, will be holding its first Senior Support Day on Tuesday, April 10, 2018.  During this time, students will receive guidance, support, and instruction to assist them in completing their Senior Capstone Project and pursuing local and national scholarship opportunities.  Dean Libutti, Vice Provost of Enrollment Management at the University of Rhode Island will be delivering a humorous and interactive key note address.  Students who attend this event will have the opportunity to win one of three scholarships on the spot.  Seniors will be dismissed at the conclusion of the event at 11:30am.

 Download Schedule Here

*Yourself – attendance is required, as this is a regular school day, despite the early dismissal at 11:30am. Remember, if you are a student-athlete you must be here the full day to attend practice/game.

*A positive attitude – this day has been created with you in mind. There are a lot of people working collaboratively together to ensure you succeed. Take advantage of this day and have fun while setting yourself up for success.

*A copy of your FAFSA confirmation page with EFC

*ALL your Capstone components so that you can effectively use your time and the resources available to you to successfully complete your Senior graduation requirement.

In the coming weeks, Rhode Island will administer the first-year of the RICAS test in English language arts (ELA) and mathematics. This assessment replaces the state required PARCC assessment.

The RICAS test will provide continuity in the classroom for teachers and students, maintain high quality assessment information about student progress, build a long-term partnership with a high performing neighboring state, and further decrease testing time. Rhode Island has high standards and expectations for all of our students, and by shifting to this assessment we can have a better understanding of how our students are performing now, and what goals we must set to help them be successful in the future.

This year, the RICAS assessment will be administered to students in grades three through eight. Students will be tested in English Language Arts (includes reading and writing) and Mathematics. Our district will administer a computer-based RICAS assessment.

RICAS assessments will continue to closely assess students’ mastery of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) in Language Arts and Math. Additional information can be found at the following website: . Please see the frequently asked questions document for more information (download here). If you have questions, please feel free to contact your child’s school.

Please download the MPS RICAS Parent Letter and the FAQ here

Please visit the MPS RICAS website for additional information:

MHS SAT School Day & PSAT 10 - April 10th

The PSAT10 and SAT School Day replaced the PARCC assessments at high school. This will ensure that all students can use the SAT to consider higher education opportunities. Increasing participation in the PSAT10 and the SAT is the first step to having more students be college and career ready.

Additional information from the RI Department of Education:

As the state requires, MPS will administer both the PSAT and SAT.

Both assessments will be administered on April 10.

PSAT will be administered to grade 10 and SAT will be administered to grade 11.

MHS will be serving breakfast to prepare us for this important day!  Breakfast available at 7:15 AM in the cafe.

Additional information about the SAT and PSAT can be found on the CollegeBoard website:
