Middletown Public Schools is working to transform our culture to promote more collaboration and innovative instructional approaches through a digital learning environment. Through a 1:1 digital transformation, teachers are engaging students in a more student-centered learning environment and moving away from more traditional, teacher-centered classrooms. This instructional shift, coupled with digital tools and resources, are helping Middletown’s students to improve their achievement and prepare them for success in college and careers.
REDEFINING STUDENT LEARNING.....
In order for students to become CRITICAL THINKERS we must stimulate their engagement through meaningful projects that require analyzing and synthesizing content. Bloom's Taxonomy is one of the most critical pieces of work in education. Even thought it was developed in the 1950's, it can still help teachers to design lessons that incorporate higher order thinking skills. In 2009, Andrew Churches adapted Bloom's Taxonomy to reflect 21st century skills and the new digital landscape. Common Sense Media provides a great 5 minute video to explain Bloom's Digital Taxonomy.

Another important model to consider when working to design, develop and integrate digital learning experiences is the SAMR model. It was developed by Dr. Ruben Puentedura. Below is a great two minute video on SAMR model. This model aligns nicely with Bloom's Taxonomy. Continue to think about how digital tools can help teachers design engaging, differentiated instructional activities.
