The Guest Speaker today was Middletown Graduate (Class of 2019), Pranitha Nichanametla, Cybersecurity Specialist and IT Specialist for NOAA! She discussed her education, career path, how much a person in the field can earn, and what her current job is like. Happy New Year! MHS wastes no time jumping right back into the swing of things. Today, Ms. Cerra's class had special guest was Dr. Mo Beck, head veterinarian for the Wildlife Rehab Clinic of Rhode Island. They spoke about their career path, training, a day in the life of wildlife rehab, and talked about some of the animals that the organization has saved. #WeAreMiddletown #IslanderPRIDE

MHS student Liam celebrated his 18th birthday in New York City and was Middletown Islander proud with pride in Central Park with his rain jacket in front of the Bethesda Fountain. Today's guest speaker was a special one, it was Ms. Cerra's cousin, Captain Barton Cerra, owner of 41 North Marine. He is a boat surveyor, owns his own business, and has a great amount of experience in the field. Congratulations to Kate Cruikshank who crushed it at her first meet of the season at the Rhode Island Track Coaches Invitational with a PR of 5’5 in the high jump. It instantly qualified her for Nationals and she jumped 5 inches higher than her final competitor! Way to make Middletown proud Kate! #WeAreMiddletown #IslanderPRIDE

The Middletown High School’s Chorus and Band, under the direction of Phillip Statser, will be holding their annual winter holiday themed concert on Tuesday December 19 at 7 pm. Yesterday, the Life Skills Department at MHS had a very special furry visitor to their classroom. Lisa from the Potter League came along with Milo, the guinea pig to teach about pet safety. Joshua King visited Ms. Cerra's class yesterday and gave a humorous and informative presentation. He talked about his winding career journey. He explained what training is involved in becoming an athletic trainer, colleges that offer the program, adjacent programs in the athletic training "team", and salaries. He also told some stories about some of the injuries he has treated. He also spoke with her Biomed Students and they were really engaged and thoroughly enjoyed the presentation. #WeAreMiddletown #IslanderPRIDE

Today we had guest speaker Rebecca Doughty from South Coast Wind. She talked about the complexities of the major wind projects off the coast of New England. She discussed the permitting, studies and more involved in putting in a wind farm as well. She shared many statistics, facts and other interesting information. She also explained the training involved in working in the field, as well as the 2 special programs at BCC and CCRI for specializing in off shore wind. #WeAreMiddletown #IslanderPRIDE
