Dear MHS Class of 2023,
Saturday, June 10, 2023 marks a milestone in your life and is a day that you will remember for the rest of your life. The Middletown family and the entire Town of Middletown are cheering and celebrating alongside you today. We are proud of our graduating class of 2023!
As Superintendent of Schools, witnessing the district's high school graduation is always a special and fulfilling event for me. I will miss being with you on Saturday, as my granddaughter is a member of a high school 2023 graduating class in Massachusetts. Her graduation is the same day! Family is an important part of my core values. As you close one chapter of your life and look to the next, I urge you to stay connected to those that have guided, nurtured and supported you.
I have known many of you and your parents throughout your educational journey in Middletown. Some of you have shared with me your experiences in our schools from preschool to graduation. I enjoyed hearing your perspective. These conversations are authentic, honest, and reflective. Student engagement and student voice are important to me and this school district. We learn from each other. I learned that the Senior Class cares very deeply about each other, that the friendships you have forged are going to last a lifetime. I learned that this class is socially aware of the challenges faced in our world today, and cares passionately about equity, freedom and justice. I learned that students in this class push themselves to achieve excellence and have diverse talents in academics, fine arts, music, language, athletics, leadership, human relations, and more. I learned that this class respects their teachers, is aware of how hard the teaching profession is, and is extremely grateful for our Middletown staff.
As your Superintendent, I have all the confidence that you will make our community, state, country, and world a better place for us all to enjoy. I wish the best to each of you as you leave Middletown High School and start your next journey. I will be thinking about you Saturday as you receive your diplomas. RIDE THE WAVE…WE ARE MIDDLETOWN!
